David Hunter, a native of central florida, inherited his father’s interest
and talent for artwork at an early age. Initially not expecting to use his
talents in the art field, David majored in zoology at the University of South
Florida in Tampa, coming away with both a B.A. (1969) and M.A. (1973) in that
subject area and illustrating his master’s thesis with pen-and-ink drawings.
From
the fall of 1973 until the summer of 1978 David taught science at the middle school
level. During his fourth year of teaching David needed a mental diversion and turned to art, working in pen and ink since that was the last artistic medium he had worked with. During the summer of 1978 David participated in his first art show and became hooked. The next (and last) school year David taught full time during the week while participating in art shows on an almost full time basis on the weekends. At the end of that fifth year of teaching David applied for and recieved a year’s leave of absence from teaching, being a full-time teacher on the last day of the school year and a full-time artist on the next day. For the past 26 years David has supported himself and his family through his artwork, hanving learned the printmaking technigques of etching and monotypes.
David has participated in art shows from Miami noth to Michigan and from
Virginia to Alabama. His work appears in galleries in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana,
North Carolina, and Massachusetts.
